FRIENDS IN CRETE

Agia Roumeli – B&b cafè taverna Pachnes  www.pachnes.gr  Stelios and Claire are a nice couple, you can’t pass through Agia Roumeli without meeting them. You can arrive here walking down the gorges of Samaria, or walking along the southern coast, or taking a boat from Sfakia and Paleochora. Pachnes is the last building of the village, it’s a quite place, with big, new, clean rooms; food is fresh, different from usual dishes, special boureki, special salads (try the avocado one, or the blue cheese and nuts…), french touch thanks to Claire, breakfast is perfect, with home made jams and cakes. The price is low!

Kallikratis – Wild herbs of Crete www.wildherbsofcrete.com Another fantastic  couple, Janina e Babis. From 1994 They opened a production of  oils from wild herbs ofCrete.  She is from Danmark, he is from Chania, but now they live in this small village on the mountains, where they have a little shop, a little cafè and   a couple of rooms for walkers along the E4. You have to stop, I  suggest!

Agios Ioannis – In a nice mountain village in the Lefka Ori, Antonis Georgedakis and his wife Anna run Alonia, something special between a mountain hut and a bed&breakfast. Nice rooms, goos food, friendly people! www.alonia.gr

Chania – Pension Nora www.pension-nora.com Eftihis and Natalie are really kind and welcome, the pension is in a nice ancient building in the centre, near the harbour, strongly recommended!

Chania – Stelios is a fantastic cooker and a philosopher, near the harbour he runs with his son and daughter To Stachi, a vegetarian restaurant, using wild herbs, local food, organic food, try it and tell him I sent you. To Stachi on facebook

Omalos – Hotel Neos Omalos www.neos-omalos.gr Georgos and family run with passion and hospitality this nice little hotel for walkers or nature lovers.

Sougia – Stelios Tzatzimakis (he has rooms too), and the staff of Galini’s restaurant, Nikos Georgios and the others): I suggest you their fish soup!

Paleohora – Restaurant Third Eye www.thethirdeye-paleochora.com – Eftikis runs with the Botonakis family this vegetarian restaurant where you can eat  local mediterranean food or indian dishes. Strongly recommended!

Radio Kreta radio-kreta.de A web radio in german lenguage fromCrete, seems a strange idea! It’s the project of  Jörg e Susanne, two germans that live here, the radio plays international and greek music, and news in german.

Kousses – Botano botano.gr  If you translate his name in italian, Yannis Giannoutsos would be  Gianni Giannotti, similar to mine, so we have a lot in common, from the beginning! He’s from Tessaloniki, and now lives with the family in this small village in the center ofCrete, near south coast (near Matala, if you know…). Here they opened Botano, a herbal shop, herbs for health and for cooking, with the possibility to sit and have a cup of tea. nice place, nice guys!
